Into The Woods

Some of my fondest memories as a child was traveling to Maine to the beach. While most families in our town would travel to the Cape (Cape Cod) we would head up to Oqunquit, Maine. I think my dad had a soft spot for Maine as he attended college at the University of Maine. Go Black Bears!

Once you cross over the bridge on I95 into Maine, the highway is lined with pine trees and beware of moose signs. I have yet to see a moose, but one of these days...... I am always on the lookout.

Last summer my husband and I travelled to Portland, Maine for the day. I dragged Steve to a yarn shop, not sure how he puts up with me, and found a stunning skein of yarn.  Dyed by Seven Sister Arts, a hand dyer in Maine, this yarn was reminiscent of the tree lined highway. I purchased the Green Wing Teal color in the Meridian base which it perfect for socks. Anyone else buy souvenir yarn?

I had been on the lookout for just the right pattern. Enter Melody Hoffman's Into the Woods pattern.
It was perfect! Those little pine trees all over the socks, I fell in love.

Not only was the beautifully written but it was so much fun to knit.

What are some of your favorite child hood trips?
