Summer Pineapples

I have not sat at my sewing machine to work on a quilt in ages. I stopped quilting because I realized I did not enjoy hand quilting my projects. I love the piecing and putting together the top of the quilts but hate sitting there and hand stitching. I don’t know if I always disliked it or if as I age and my eye site gets worse (oh that you forties) that I find it a trying task.

However I was really missing putting quilt tops together.

Over the 4th of July weekend, My husband and I went to Ikea and bought a sewing table for me. I was able to set up a crafting area in our finished basement.

I decide it was time to start quilting again and this time I am going to machine quilt them. I decided to start off with an easy paper piecing pattern. I thought pineapples was the perfect summer table topper. I found the perfect pattern, Fresh Pineapple Paper Piecing from QuiltyPie . I dug through my scrap fabrics. I unfortunately do not have much as when I stopped quilting I have the majority to my mom. Good news is a have free access to her stash 😃!

This was such an easy project! I did three pineapples and connected them with a 1 1/2 inch sashing. Perfect size to brighten up my kitchen island for the summer.

For machine quilting I created a diamond pattern in the pineapple to mimic the texture of a real one and stitched in the ditch around the top of the pineapples.

I had so much fun with the project, I am hoping this is the start to many more quilts!
